I hear ya about Eric [busting out a little more]...altho he actually plays the most progressive authentic sounding jazz/bop motifs of any of them in the EB setting [Chick, Frank]...he prob "holds back" simply because Chick & esp Frank & Weckl don't!! [img]wink.gif[/img] [& he feels enough is enough, already!] LOL

Seriously, some of those philosophies are nice & good & all, & I do understand that man is a spirit within a flesh body & all, but all that psycho-babble about the universe & the elder beings from it & all that is just a LITTLE TOO much...

Sitting here listening to "Friends" and love the stuff Gadd layed down for the rest of us many years ago. It's the stuff that brought drumming to what it is today...... Vinne, Weckl, and everyone and their mother included.

I'll never forget the time I saw the Electric Band touring the "Eye of the Beholder" at the Greek Theater in L.A. Had to be the best "sound" I had ever heard in an outdoor arena situation. The show was also amazing. The 1st tune where Chick does a little solo after the effects, he had ballerinas come out on stage, and with the sun just setting, and the cool air, and awesome texture of the music, ughh...... it was just awesome. Chick is a master at putting on a show.

Although I feel Vinne is an rediculously talented drummer, I think Weckl was the right pic for the Electric band. He (at the time) had brought a new "sound" to the whole "fusion" thing and drumming in general. I'd love to see Henderson come back and play with them.

As far as the "Scientology" thing?? I don't know what to say. As an Atheist & Humanist, most religions all sound pretty far fetched in their stories/beleifs, but it's what they believe. It "works" for them. And if that is one of the reasons Chick has brought us all this great music for the past 30+ years, then so be it.

I don't feel TTS to be up to CCEB's earlier stuff. It just doesn't do for me what the earlier CD's did. The live clips on DW's site sure sound good though. Maybe it has to be experienced live. Hope they come to Chicago.

I do love the Port View Interludes. Some different stuff from Chick (I think he's secretly wanted to do this for years).
